Learn Twitter Tips for Business on the WorksTeam webinar

For anyone unfamiliar with Twitter, it is a great social networking tool that a lot of attraction marketers are utilizing to connect with people, gain traffic to their web content, and ultimately help increase their businesses.

You can search on particular topics or keywords and find people with similar interests, locations or interests that relate to your niche market. When you click to “follow” someone, you then receive the few sentences that that person posts from their Twitter home page. When you post, your followers receive your short blurb with a limit of 140 characters. Like any online social networking site, it is important to provide valuable information and not “spam” people by just blasting your “deal” to them. You can comment about other people’s “tweets” you can tweet something inspirational, you can tweet a link to an article that would be of interest to your followers. If you do not use Twitter responsibly and provide value to your follows, they will just “unfollow” you. Most people reciprocate by follow you back when you follow them.

Creating Marketing Videos that Get Attention and Using them Effectively in Marketing Your Business

Using video marketing can make a big impact on your business. Whether you are new to some of the social marketing and attraction marketing methods, video marketing is something you can add fairly easily.

A week ago Stephen Anderson, a member of our WorksTeam and resident of Australia, was presenter on our weekly Mon. Night WorksTeam Training webinar and gave fantastic, information-packed presentation. You may have seen some of Stephen's creative Renegade Marketer videos on YouTube. He is very creative, has a great sense of humor and has a passion for helping others.

Stephen walked step-by-step through some simple techniques for creating video by creating two different videos on the training webinar. He demonstrated how to use a basic webcam and Windows Move Maker video to create a video clip. In his second video demonstration, he showed how a simple powerpoint presentation and audio could be used to create an effective marketing video.

Certainly as your business progresses, if you decide you want to utilize video marketing in more depth, you can invest in some useful software, like Camtasia. But the great thing is you can utilize video marketing to grow your business even if you are on a limit budget.

A few things to keep in mind when creating marketing videos:

keep them short definitely under 10 minutes - 30 seconds – 2 ½ minutes is ideal
make sure you include your url at the beginning and end of your video so you are pointing people back to your site
be creative and use your sense of humor – people will direct others to your video
use good relevant keywords in your title and description

The truth is learning is the key to success, and I don't necessarily mean higher education. A self-directed learner – one highly motivated to learn - will often learn far more than someone just taken college classes to get the piece of paper. I know because I went through years of college earning a M.S. Degree but learned far more valuable lessons in network marketing than all the years of college courses.

“Leaders Read and Readers Lead” is so true. A leader is continually learning and growing or he is left behind - especially in the fast-paced, quickly changing Internet world of the 21st century.

Generating Your Own Leads: Purchased Leads vs. Self-Generated Leads

When I started out in network marketing almost 7 years ago, I was told to make a list of all my the people I know to “share” my opportunity with. Well, none of the people in my circle of influence had an entrepreneurial bone in their body, and with working full-time as an Art teacher, pregnant, and having a two and four year old in tow - running around looking for potential prospects was not too practical. So...

I purchased leads and, once I developed the right communication skills and learned how to use leads effectively, I started having some success. You can build a successful network marketing business using purchased leads if you have a source of decent quality leads. I did it and I know many people who have done so as well. However, you need to go through a lot of leads, develop good skills and not let rejection bother you. I was fortunate that I had a huge “why” and was determined to do what it took to be successful, but once I started generating my own leads it was so much better.

The other night Joe filled out the contact form on my website asking for some help. Here is what he said:

"I have been purchasing 6 a day leads for $275/month. But, 9 out of 10 people won't answer the phone and the ones that do answer aren't interested. I can't continue to pay $275 per month without some better responses. It's not all my inexperience, I worked in Sales for 4 years. I can't get past the opening statement before they tell me they are no longer interested. Hard to believe these leads are only a few days old! They sure don't seem like targeted market leads."

That is the challenge with purchased leads. Often lead companies re-sell leads or are less than truthful about how they generate their leads. Price alone does not determine a quality lead. Sure, if they are really cheap then you can be pretty sure you are not going to get a quality lead. But as you can see from Joe's experience, even when you are paying $1-2/lead you may not be getting a quality lead. Even when you locate a reputable company with a decent quality of lead, a purchased lead will never be as good as a lead you generate yourself.

When you generate your own leads, people are searching and finding YOU. They make a connection with you before you even call. It doesn't mean they will jump right into whatever you are offering, but the relationship building has begun. Depending on how you are having people opt-in: requesting a free e book, like the 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing, signing up for your newsletter, purchasing training material; you are also looking at someone who is more serious than a purchased lead as well. You see with a purchased lead, the person may be just on the Internet, sees an ad that looks interesting and opted in. They may have just had a rough day at work and the idea of making money at home sound interesting.

However, when you are generating your own lead, for the most part, the person is searching for something specifically, reading an ezine they subscribed to that is related to what you are marketing, reading your article, etc. So this person is actively searching and finding or attracted to what you have to offer. If you are using a auto responder, like GetResponse or Aweber, they are also receiving emails directly from you as soon as they opt-in to what you are offering. Keep in mind, your emails should be educational in nature and of VALUE. At any rate they already they already know who you are. It is not at all uncommon for me to get responses like this when I call a lead I have generated myself:

“Oh hi Wendy! I was meaning to call you!”

And fairly frequently people will actually email or call me before I get chance to call them. This just doesn't happen with a purchased lead!

Of course generating your own leads does take time to learn and also time to start generating enough. That is why I recommend someone start by purchasing the Renegade Marketer Ebook, utilizing the training that comes with it, while calling leads you already have or purchasing leads.

The 80/20 Principle and Network Marketing

I was reminded again of the 80/20 principle the other day when I received a Brian Tracy's Success Management email Newsletter. By the way, I recommend subscribing to Brian Tracy's daily quotes or other types of daily positive or business email newsletters as a great way to start off your day.

Any way, as Brian Tracy mentions, the 80/20 rule is also called the Pareto Principle after its founder, the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto. He noticed that people seemed to divide naturally into the top 20%, what he referred to as the “vital few”, who had the most money and influence, and the bottom 80%, which he referred to as the “trivial many”. He then discovered that virtually all economic activity was subject to this rule.

It was in network marketing that I first remember hearing this rule and through the years I have seen that it applies to more than just economics.

20% of your downline will do 80% of the activity in your business.
20% of your customers will contribute to 80% of your sales.
20% of your time spent will yield 80% of the valued results

I immediately thought of Ann Sieg, the author of The 7 Great Lies in Network Marketing and the Renegade Marketer ebooks, and the Renegade Marketing System. In case you are not aware of it, the name of her business is 80/20 Marketing Inc.

Ann and I have been working together since the end of 2004 as cross-line team mates as part of a mastermind group and she is now in my downline in SendOutCards. I was fortunate to get chance to meet her face-to-face again in Salt Lake City this August and I got to meet her husband, Brian, for the first time. In referring to the 80/20 in their company name, he says, “I would rather work for myself 80 hours a week than work for someone else 20 hours”

I wholehearted agree with him! That is one of the things I love best about network marketing and working for myself – being in control of my own time and life. However, the biggest benefit can also be the biggest challenge.

When you come from an “employee mind-set “you are used to someone else dictating your day and time and it is often hard to make the shift to an “employer” or “entrepreneur mind-set”. You need to be plan your business time so you are using it productively. For most people starting out in network marketing, they are working their new business around their job until they start bringing in enough income to 'fire their boss”.

When you have a limited amount of time to work your business, using the time you do have is even more vital to your success. First you need to treat your business as a business. Determine how much time you have, schedule that time in your calendar or weekly planner and stick to it. If family or your job cuts into your business time, they owe you, so make sure you 'pay back' that time.

Applying the 80/20 rule can help you determine which activities will yield the greatest results so you use your time productively. You need to balance your activities. Of course you need to spend some time on marketing but the most important use of your time will be talking with potential customers or business partners. So don't spend 80% of your time writing that perfect email, newsletter or brochure. Also, you need to make sure you are spending time with qualified prospects. Again spending 80% of your time with the wrong people will only get you frustrated. You need to learn how to work smarter and spend your time on the things that will yield 80% of your results.

Work at Home JOB or Home BUSINESS? - There's the DIFFERENCE!

I recently joined an online Moms forum and notice a group for Moms who want to work work at home and joined. Afterall, I am a Mom who works from home. I didn't post right away but just scanned through some of the posts.

I was amazed by how many people just posted 'their deal' – just going on about how wonderful their comp. plan is, or product is - how well they are doing, etc. In addition, there were other moms who were blasting network marketing as a scam or 'pyramid scheme'.

The problem is some of these ladies are looking for a work at home J.O.B. and some are looking, or are in, a work at home BUSINESS. The two are very different and that is where some of the confusion, frustration and hostility was coming from.

You need to find what is a good fit for YOU.

Network marketing is a legitimate way of building a business and has been around for 40 years or more. A pyramid scheme is illegal. If no one is selling a product or service, it is a pyramid scheme and it will be shut down. Arbonne, Avon, SendOutCards, Isagenix, Shaklee, etc. are not pyramid schemes. However, they may or may not be what you are looking for. Also you need to find a product or service you see is of VALUE. If you don't believe you have something of great value, how can you possible market it effectively? No matter what some of you may have been told EVERYONE is not a potential prospect!

About 6 or 7 years ago I was a full-time art teacher, but wanted to stay home with my kids. I looked at work at home JOBS but after a lot of research found that there was nothing out there in which I could earn enough money to support my family, and still give me time with my kids, if I worked for someone else. My income was 2/3 of our family income. Now many of these ladies may just need to make some extra money and a work at home job may be great for them. That was not the case for me.

I began researching network marketing and saw that this was a way to leverage my time, help others and build a full-time income working part-time. However, it does take time and consistent effort. The unfortunate thing is there is so much hype out there – “you don't need any sales skills”, “you can make a gillion dollars in 3 months”, “this product sells itself!” and so on. This is just nonsense. For most people it takes 2-5 years to reach a full-time income, depending on the time they invest, skill development, etc.

The problem is that, often times, you are dealing with the 'blind leading the blind'. Certainly there are plenty of scams and scammers out there, but even worse - there are people just passing along bad marketing information because they don't know what they are doing either. “Just keep doing more of it” If what they are telling you to do is not working, do you think doing more is going to help?? So it is important not only to find the right company or product/service, but also the right PEOPLE to work with.

I was fortunate that I had a very big reason to make working at home work for me. I figured out was worked and what didn't, often the hard way. What I soon discovered is that even though I had many, many challenges, I loved the freedom of working for myself. I don't think I could ever go back to working for someone else. As long as I have my laptop, I can work my business anywhere. When my kids and I were in Scotland last fall, clients and business associates could call a NY state number and reach me on my laptop!

One of the things I would recommend anyone wanting a home business is to work toward developing multiple streams of income. You need to learn what you are doing first of course, but keep that in mind as you progress. For those who like helping other people and want their own business, network marketing may be a good fit. If you don't want the responsibility of helping a downline, affiliate marketing may be a better option. I integrate both into my business.

Why a Domain Name?

Domain names can be a great tool for you business. I have quite a few domain names and use them for various purposes. So why would someone need a domain name anyway?

To direct people to YOUR website

Many people in network marketing or direct sales have a corporate website, but usually the url is something like www. Mycompany.com/12345 Well, what happens if a potential customer or business partner mistypes the number or just leaves off the numbers all together? You could be wasting your marketing efforts.

To Send People to Specific Pages of Your Website

Domain names are great for directing people to specific pages or sections of your website. You may want to keep your customer pages and business opportunity pages separate. With a domain name you can forward your prospects to the section you want them to see. This is also great for people who may be promoting more than one product or service too.

Domain names can also be handy for directing people to different landing pages on your website. When you are marketing in different places - ezines, forums, online ads, etc. you want to know which advertisements are bringing in the best results, so you can create different landing pages to track where your prospects are coming from. Domain names can be useful if you aren't using banners or linked graphics.

Ability to Change where the Domain Name Takes your Prospects

This allows you to have control of your marketing and be an independent marketer. What if you are promoting a health and nutritional product you really love and then the company changes the product or makes other changes within the company that aren't in alignment with what you want to promote? If all your marketing is directing people to a corporate site your could be directing people to that company for quite a while and losing business. If on the other hand you had a domain name, you could simple search for a new product/service and change the forwarding on the domain name to the new product or service.

The other advantage this has is that you can reserve a domain name you like and direct it to your corporate site and if you build a personal website you can then use that domain name for your personal site. Having your own personal website allows you to promote yourself and I recommend people set up a simple personal website if they are serious and in this for the long haul.

So How Do You Choose a Domain Name?

Generally you want a domain name that is easy to say and remember. You probably want to spell it out when leaving your domain name on a voice mail, but it makes it easier if it is not too long or difficult to has too unusual a spelling. Often using your names is good for at least one domain name so you are branding yourself and help prospects recognize your name.

I have had several occasions when downline members have asked me for help in choosing a domain name because every one they try is “taken”. Some good ways to find a domain that isn't already in use is to play around with reversing words and using an online thesaurus to try similar words. So if bestbooks is taken, try greatbooks or kidsgreatbooks. I usually try to avoid vowels or the same consonant in two words being next to each other because the domain name becomes less readable. So
theemporium or funnyyoyos may not be the best choice.

Where to Get a Domain name?

You can get domain names at a lot of places, but I like having all my domain names at one place since it is easier to keep track of them. I have had my domain names with GoDaddy for about 4 years or so and have been happy with the easy of forwarding, checking my account, etc. GoDaddy also have some nice features like having emails with the same domain name. I haven't used this service since I have my own website with email addresses , but it does create a professional image when your domain name and email address match.

Domain names are useful tools and can be a great beginning for people who are serious about becoming Independent Marketers.

Rumors?

Another update on the Leaders Club nonsense. It just seems to get more unbelievable. An email went out on June 25th, 2007, to my Leaders Club subscribers. Apparently it went out to the subscribers of all the leaders who were suddenly blocked from their sites and prevented from effectively servicing their subscribers on June 15th without notice.

Now what is interesting about this email is that is with a title like, "There are rumors, rumors, rumors..." you would think there would be an attempt to clarify and give insight into what was going on. Not so. One of my subscribers, who forwarded the email to me, said that if it wasn't for the fact that I had sent an email explaining what I knew about the situation, this other email "from the Desk of Andre Vatke" would have completely confused her and made her wonder what on earth was going on.

The problem is the email really never says much of anything and much of what is does state conflicts with the supposed violations and what actually occurred.

First of all it states,
"There are a number of rumors going around about your upline. It’s my understanding that you may have received an e-mail indicating a number of nasty things about Leaders Club including among other items that one of your upline may have been terminated."

First of all, to my knowledge, no one sent any nasty emails. I certainly didn't, in fact, I had many, many positive reply emails thanking me for my professionalism and letting them know what was going on - that I would not be able to service them, since I did not have access to my site.

Secondly, we were all told if we did not satisfy their office by June 29th they would terminate our relationship. Now perhaps I am not reading this right, but would that not indicate they were planning on terminating people? We never said we were terminated, just that it looked like that would happen.

"As in any situation, there are always two sides to a story and I would like to lay a few of them to rest.

The first is that as of today, there have only been three marketers with Leaders Club terminated in 13 years. As with any termination, Leaders Club would only do so with reasonable cause and after consulting our attorneys.

In the current case, the marketers in question are involved in our Certified Marketing Consultant Training Program and are under a separate contract that includes a non-compete and non-disclosure clause. This goes beyond the normal Leaders Club membership terms. Based on the evidence we have, it appears these folks are in breech of this contract."

Now when Jeff Zalewski, the former National Director of Training in Leaders Club, was terminated May 30th he had never signed a CMC agreement, because he developed the program! Also, one of the people involved with this incident was terminated on the spot without notice and he was never in the CMC, so was not bound by any Certified Marketing Consultant agreement. The only thing he did was promote Ann Sieg's Renegade Marketer ebook and defend her when a couple individuals were making up, or distorting things, and hurling insults in her direction. Yet at the end of this email it states:

"And of course as a regular Leaders Club member, you may promote anything you like to your personally enrolled members!"

In addition, in the letter we received with the supposed violations, it stated that we were in violation of the CMC and the regular members agreement.

Another interesting thing about this email is the statement,
"In the event that someone in your upline is terminated, the organization would roll-up to the next qualified person. At no point would Leaders Club move you to another organization."

Now when our subscribers view their upline they see me, then Glenn Burks, then Curt Johnson and then they used to see Jeff Zalewski, but now Team Leaders Club shows up above Curt Johnson since they terminated Jeff. So when the WorksTeam leaders are gone where do you suppose our subscribers will go?

Also, when our subscribers view their upline the email address they are given is molly@leadersclub.com This email address has shown up as our contact email in emails our subscribers have received. Now most of my subscribers will just email me at the address they have in their address book, but what about new people who may join Leaders Club while I am blocked and don't have access to my downline report?
People could be thinking they are emailing me but really emailing Leaders Club.

So much for this email clarifying!

I think that has been the frustrating part of all this. Statements are being made in the supposed violations that just are not true, yet any attempts to explain that goes on deaf ears and the responses back keep stating the same false alligations.

But one thing I have learned after being in network marketing for over 6 years is to build multiple income streams. Never put "all your eggs in one basket" We have a great group of leaders and everyone will move on to better things. In fact quite a number of us are looking forward to putting this all behind us and will be meeting in Salt Lake City for the SendOutCards convention.

My hope is that the posts regarding Leaders Club have served as a "wake-up call" to other marketers out there. I have seen it before - companies made poor decisions that affect distributors lives.

To be a truly Independent Marketer you need to develop multiple income streams. Develop strong marketing skills, choose companies, affiliate programs, products, services, etc. that fit together well for your purpose and goals. Promote yourself first, and "fire" the companies that don't serve you well.

Sad Truth about Leaders Club

Recently there have been some sad changes within Leaders Club.

Leaders Club has black-listed me and many others from our own organizations. As of Friday the 15th of June I have been unable to access my Leaders Club Members Area as well as many other associates. In addition we have been informed that they are withholding our commissions earned in May until further notice.

What this means is that I am no longer able to service my subscribers as their Leaders Club upline. If my subscribers look on their report they will see that I am still showing there but Leaders Club plans on terminating us on June 29, keeping the money we have earned. My email address on my subscriber's reports has been changed to molly at leadersclub. This have been done in order to keep us from accessing our organizations.

Now you may be thinking that Leaders Club wouldn't do that without reason, so I am going to give you their reasons here so you have the truth and you can decide for yourself what you think.

“Ann Sieg's Renegade Network Marketer program is a competitive program. Any CMC member involved or promoting this program is in violation of the CMC Agreement and Leaders Club's membership terms. “

First, this program was designed to help our people learn online marketing after or while learning the fundamentals in Leaders Club. This is a complementary program. None of the material is taken from Leaders Club material. This was never designed to compete against Leaders Club. Secondly, I am an independent distributor and Leaders Club has no right to determine what I can or can not promote. They are always telling distributors in other network marketing companies that it is okay to promote Leaders Club, and the subscriber's primary company has no right to prevent them from doing so, so this is hypocritical to say the least.

“We (LeadersClub) have found that the WorksTeam is offering training which is similar to Leaders Club, to persons not involved with Leaders Club. Additionally, the tone and language observed is indicative that this training is meant to dilute Leaders Club services. We consider this to be a breach of the CMC agreement.”

Now does that mean that if a Leaders Club subscriber learns things through their paid subscription in Leader Club they are not allowed to teach their downline any of these concepts? What is the point of membership then? The irony here is that the majority of the material in Leaders Club was developed by Jeff Zalewski, former National Director of Training, who LeadersClub just terminated May 30, owing him income earned as well.

“We (LeadersClub) have numerous complaints with supporting evidence that there is a concerted effort from numerous WorksTeam members to recruit existing Leaders Club subscribers into another multi-level company. Our evidence show this contact is both coordinated and targeted to the entire organization. This is a clear violation of the Leaders Club membership terms.”

What they are referring to is the fact that I and others in SendOutCards conducted a Webinar on how SendOutCards can be utilized in ANY business to increase referrals, retention and increase sales. The subject and content of the Webinar was to help people be more successful in their chosen business. My associates and I only invited the people we have direct contact with - the people we have personally sponsored into Leaders Club, our own leads, and those who have contacted us.

So according to this it is okay for distributors in other companies to join Leaders Club to utilize training and even earn referral commissions in this multi-level company, but it is not okay to offer services like SendOutCards to Leaders Club subscribers.

My goal has always been and still remains to help people become professional network marketers and to help them obtain the level of success they desire within their chosen company.

Fortunately I have stressed the importance of always developing multiple income streams because I have seen and experienced this before - people in control getting greedy or making poor decisions which affect the lives of the distributors in the organization. So I will concentrate on building my other businesses, filling the gap of no longer utilizing the training in Leaders Club, and help others get back on track.

I work with a lot of good people. These are strong leaders who will not just let Leaders Club steal their earned income, so Leaders Club will ultimately see the repercussions of their actions.

At the same time, we will move on and be stronger for it.

Ann Sieg's Renegade Marketer System Launch Causes a Stir

The Renegade System launched on June 12th and has already caused quite a stir within the industry. I was fortunate to have been able to preview the contents and was very impressed with the depth of information and tools in place to help people learn how to market and truly become independent.

This is an advanced marketing system that people can utilize to generate leads and fund their marketing efforts, then after growing their business the principles taught in this system could really be applied to ANY business. So even though the ebooks are targeted to the Network Marketer, the principles could be utilized by any business person. In fact, Ann mentions that in her ebook, The Renegade Marketer.

The marketing principles are not new, it is how it is all put together that is unique and the fact that these principles are now available to network marketers. Unfortunately within the network marketing industry there is a tendency to mislead people that they don't need marketing or sales skills to build a successful business. This isn't always done intentionally, but it does cause much frustration for many network marketers beginning their businesses.

As Ann states in her ebook, The 7 Great Lies in Network Marketing:

"There’s a huge deficiency of proper sales training because if it’s not sales, then there’s no need for sales skills. As a result, people are thrown to the wolves totally unprepared to retail their products and their opportunity."

One of the things I found very interesting about this launch though is the stir it has already caused within the industry. In one of the emails prior to the launch we were warned that the ebooks and system would make people angry...very angry.

"Some (those TELLING these lies) will be angry because she is exposing them for what they really are. Other (those who have been lied to) will be angry when they discover the REAL truth that their uplines have been hiding from them all along."

Now I didn't think too much about it at the time, but what is interesting now is how true that statement is. I have seen sites and blogs that could easily give Ann justified reason to bring legal action against them for defamation of character, copyright infringement and more. The interesting thing about these heated torrents, blasting Ann and the Renegade system, is they just ramble on without really saying much other than hurl insults and lies.

The thing people need to be aware of is that all the sites I have seen that are negative and insulting toward Ann and the Renegade system have their own agenda and reason for their negativity - they don't want their own lies exposed and/or they are afraid of the competition.

Everyone I have talked with who has read the ebooks and gone through the system has had nothing but POSITIVE comments. In fact, I have heard so many people excited about how this information and system is going to help them and that this is the missing piece to the marketing puzzle they have been looking for.

I for one, am glad to have this information and system to help the people I am working with and have it as a resource to offer those who have been struggling or just beginning a business. I wasted a lot of time, marketing dollars and effort when I first got started. I know that if this information and system would have been available back then, over 6 years ago now, it would have made a HUGE difference in my success.
